Professional of the Year…again!
Our very own CEO Dan Paull, has received the prestigious 2017 Asia Pacific Spatial Professional of the Year Award.
This is the second time Dan has been awarded the honour – having also been recognised in 2009 – for his outstanding achievements within the surveying and spatial industry.
It’s an impressive feat for someone who has seen every facet of the geospatial industry change dramatically since he began as PSMA CEO in 2001. From the technology used, to how geospatial data is applied in a business context, to the rise of neo-geography and the active consumption of geospatial data in our everyday lives – Dan has seen it all.
Notably, Dan hasn’t watched these changes unfold; instead he has completely immersed himself in them – exploring opportunities to transform, disrupt, collaborate and learn from the best minds in multiple industries.
It’s Dan’s passion for the spatial industry and his steering of PSMA through this evolution that has been recognised by his peers across the Asia-Pacific region.
And he’s the first to acknowledge the teams and partnerships that make his success possible.
“People are everything; they hold the key,” says Dan. “To be successful, we need an environment for our people to innovate, collaborate and thrive – this is at least as important as the knowledge we have.
“So this award reflects on the people at PSMA and what they have achieved.”
Though humble, Dan is an internationally recognised authority on multi-jurisdictional Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) and the automation of complex location-based information supply chains. His insights have been sought after in Europe, the US, and even at the prestigious Ordnance Survey UK’s Cambridge Conference in 2017.
He also actively builds partnerships with significant enterprises, including DigitalGlobe, which saw the creation of award-winning Geoscape, a continent-scale spatial dataset that can support analytics to full commercial scale.
“Dan’s ability to detect technology advancements and understand how they support business needs across a range of industry verticals is unmatched,” said Kevin Lausten, Senior Director Geospatial Big Data, DigitalGlobe. “Dan uniquely brings together innovation, commercial collaboration and business acumen, which has placed Dan at the front of the pack!”
Dan continues to look for new ways to deliver the right data at the right time in a collaborative way – and he’s enthusiastic about what comes next for the industry.
“When you do what you love and you love what you do, this sort of recognition from your peers is certainly not expected but is greatly appreciated,” Dan said.
The Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards celebrate the achievers in the spatial industry, across academia, government, research and the private sector. National awards were announced at a gala dinner at Locate18 in Adelaide on 10 April 2018.
