Product News: Addresses API now available in beta

The Addresses API verifies an address and returns information about it.

Our new Addresses API aims to be your go-to resource for everything you need to know about an address and the beta version is now available at the PSMA Developer Portal.

The API is an address verification service, with input addresses validated against PSMA’s Geocoded National Address File (GNAF) – the authoritative index of Australian addresses.

After verifying an address, the Addresses API offers a range of attributes for it including:

  • Commonwealth electorate
  • State electorate
  • Local Government Area (LGA)
  • Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) statistical area
  • property identifier; and
  • geographic coordinates.

The Addresses API also returns building identifiers to be used in conjunction with PSMA’s Buildings API.

The API is built on REST principles with response output in JSON and GeoJSON. Queries can be requested individually or as a collection using an ‘include’ element. Authentication is via an API key.

The Addresses API is free only while in beta. To experiment with it, opt-in to the PSMA Beta Program and we’ll send you a key. If you’ve already opted into the Beta Program, your beta Buildings API key will unlock the Addresses API also.

We want to give you everything you need to know about an address. Try the Addresses API. Tell us what you think and what other data you’d like to see incorporated.
